Description | Dr. Z is a Naturopathic Doctor who received her Doctorate from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Arizona. This is one of the seven accredited four-year schools of Naturopathic medicine. Doctors who have graduated from one of these schools have completed a rigorous medical training, equivalent to that offered at conventional medical schools, with the addition and concentration on natural therapeutic modalities which are absent from most medical schools. Her education consisted of both standard medical training and natural therapeutics i.e Anatomy, Pathology, Physiology, Oncology, Microbiology, Embryology, Immunology, Mind-Body Medicine, Neurofeedback, Neuroanatomy, Environmental Medicine, Physical Medicine, Pharmacology, Homeopathy, Acupuncture, Botanical Medicine, Aryuvedic Medicine, Hydrotherapy, Medical Nutrition, Endocrinology, and Biochemistry, to name a few. Both types of medicine should and can co-exist to better meet the needs of people today. She also received her Bachelors of Science degree from Florida International University in Nutrition and Dietetics, a research university. In addition, she also holds an Associate Degree in Science. She has worked as a Clinical Registered Dietitian Nutritionist since 2002 going as far as lead managing clinical registered dietitian in local hospital settings. Her daily work found her providing assessments and developing nutritional care plans for patients on life support (in the I.C.U), palliative care -nursing homes, life altering chronic diseases such as heart, kidney, & liver failure, diabetes, respiratory illnesses, general nutrition and wellness to name a few. Her client base has ranged from infants (N.I.C.U) to professionals at fortune 500 companies, fitness enthusiast to the elderly. This experience has proved invaluable. The role as public health servant- educator has lead to teaching nutrition- health classes for hospital staff, doctors as well as university and middle school students. She has also served as hospital representative giving nutritional advice on the local television station Channel 3 KTVK Phoenix, spokesperson for natural skincare line to name a few. Nevertheless, her calling is to help prevent people from getting in the hospital to begin with. Quality of life is most important! This is what brings her now to a private practice setting. “Zamar” as she is affectionately known by her friends and family, was born on the small island of Jamaica West Indies. Here she was exposed to the natural way of living, eating and existing by the first medicine woman, healer she knew- her grandmother “Mother Mac” as she was known in the village but to her simply mama said it all. All this, set the stage prior to moving to the United States at the tender age of 13. In the big city of New York where she learned to fully appreciate exactly what she had, back home in the countryside of the Island. The abundance of exotic fruits and simple lifestyle was very rich indeed, in all the things she now sees as vital for a healthy life. The use of herbs, food from the earth and laying on of hands for healing was a way of life for her, it was only natural. She learned through experience in the cosmopolitan city of NY the differences each lifestyle had to offer. Convenience or fast food and fast life style wasn’t necessarily the healthiest choice but lessons learned. No longer is she day dreaming of living in the promise land “America” while eating buckets of fresh fruit in the sun. She has lived it and gained some knowledge in the process… Balance and appreciation for the differences. Dr. Z has managed to come full circle and can today appreciate the seemingly hard lessons learned along the way. No longer seeking what can be viewed as “bad & unhealthy” for soul & body but with new and greater perspective seeking what is best for the greater self. With new found understanding of what it means to live with balance and awareness of what life has to offer on both sides. Being fully aware that the ebs & flows of life are ever present but the viewpoint is crucial. She believes strongly in energy and life providing what you need at the moment to grow. It is up to us to show up and commit to performing even in it’s most difficult time. |
